The film stars Myers as a large, strong, solitude-loving, intimidating ogre named Shrek (from the German word "schreck" meaning "terror" or Yiddish word שרעק, meaning "fear"), Diaz as the beautiful but very down-to-earth and feisty Princess Fiona, Murphy as a talkative donkey named Donkey, and Lithgow as the villainous Lord Farquaad.

The Arc de Triomphe is a monument in Paris, France that stands in the centre of the Place Charles de Gaulle, also known as the Place de l’Étoile.[1] It is at the western end of the Champs-Élysées. The triumphal arch honors those who fought for France, particularly during the Napoleonic Wars. On the inside and the top of the arc there are all of the names of generals and wars fought. Underneath is the tomb of the unknown soldier from World War I.

The Arc is the linchpin of the historic axis (L’Axe historique) — a sequence of monuments and grand thoroughfares on a route which goes from the courtyard of the Louvre Palace to the outskirts of Paris. The monument was designed by Jean Chalgrin in 1806, and its iconographic program pitted heroically nude French youths against bearded Germanic warriors in chain mail and set the tone for public monuments, with triumphant nationalistic messages, until World War I.

The monument stands 49.5 metres (162 ft) in height, 45 metres (148 ft) wide and 22 meters (72 ft) deep. It is the second largest triumphal arch in existence.[2] Its design was inspired by the Roman Arch of Titus. The Arc de Triomphe is so colossal that three weeks after the Paris victory parade in 1919, marking the end of hostilities in World War I, Charles Godefroy flew his Nieuport biplane through it, with the event captured in a newsreel.[3]   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arc_de_Triomphe

There was a pre-Napoleonic (1758) proposal by Charles Ribart for an elephant-shaped building on the location of the current arch.

The Battle of Austerlitz (Czech: Bitva u Slavkova) also known as the Battle of the Three Emperors, was one of Napoleon’s greatest victories, effectively destroying the Third Coalition against the French Empire. On December 2, 1805 (November 20, Old Style), a French army, commanded by Emperor Napoleon I, decisively defeated a RussoAustrian army, commanded by Tsar Alexander I, after nearly nine hours of difficult fighting. The battle took place near Austerlitz (Slavkov u Brna) about 10 km (6 miles) south-east of Brno in Moravia. The battle is often regarded as a tactical masterpiece.

The French victory at Austerlitz effectively brought the Third Coalition to an end. On December 26, 1805, Austria and France signed the Treaty of Pressburg, which took Austria out of the war, reinforced the earlier treaties of Campo Formio and Lunéville, made Austria cede land to Napoleon’s German allies, and imposed an indemnity of 40 million francs on the defeated Habsburgs. Russian troops were allowed to head back to home soil. Victory at Austerlitz also permitted the creation of the Confederation of the Rhine, a collection of German states intended as a buffer zone between France and central Europe. In 1806, the Holy Roman Empire ceased to exist when Holy Roman Emperor Francis II kept Francis I of Austria as his only official title. These achievements, however, did not establish a lasting peace on the continent. Prussian worries about growing French influence in Central Europe sparked the War of the Fourth Coalition in 1806.

HAPPY NEW YEAR ; ICE CUBE ANYONE ?

THE NICE THING ABOUT WINTER IS THAT IF THE BIRD POOPS ; IT IS USUALY FROZEN BY THE TIME IT HITS YOU ;

New Years Eve revellers around the GTA should bundle up tonight with a low of -14C expected, according to Environment Canada. "It’s a pretty cold night. The normal is -8C," said Environment Canada meteorologist Mitch Meredith. Fortunately the gusting winds, which have reached 50 km/h at Pearson Airport today, are expected to die down as 2009 approaches. "The wind will diminish rapidly and become nil by midnight," said Meredith. The City of Toronto has issued an extreme cold weather alert and activated extra services to help homeless people get off the street and into shelters for the night.   http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/article/560312

Several Arab countries have shelved New Year’s Eve celebrations in solidarity with Palestinians in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip who have suffered a fifth straight day of Israeli bombardment. Egypt, Jordan, Dubai and Syria have all cancelled festivities including concerts by popular Arab singers which had been billed for Wednesday night. Egypt’s state-owned Al-Ahram daily newspaper reported that official events planned for New Year’s Eve had been called off.

Two has many properties in mathematics.[1] An integer is called even if it is divisible by 2. For integers written in a numeral system based on an even number, such as decimal and hexadecimal, divisibility by 2 is easily tested by merely looking at the one’s place digit. If it is even, then the whole number is even. In particular, when written in the decimal system, all multiples of 2 will end in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8.  Two is the smallest and the first prime number, and the only even one[2] (for this reason it is sometimes humorously called "the oddest prime"[3]). The next prime is three. Two and three are the only two consecutive prime numbers. 2 is the first Sophie Germain prime, the first factorial prime, the first Lucas prime, and the first Smarandache-Wellin prime. It is an Eisenstein prime with no imaginary part and real part of the form 3n − 1. It is also a Stern prime, a Pell number, and a Markov number, appearing in infinitely many solutions to the Markov Diophantine equation involving odd-indexed Pell numbers.

Two also has the unique property that 2+2 = 2·2 = 2²=2↑↑2=2↑↑↑2, and so on, no matter how high the operation is.

Two is the only number x such that the sum of the reciprocals of the powers of x equals itself. In symbols:

"zero" and "cipher" are both names for the number 0, shared in various forms across several languages. They are doublets, in fact sharing the same root in Arabic "صفر" (which transliterates as "sifr"). Via Italian this became "zefiro" and thence "zero" in modern English, French, and Italian. But via Spanish it became "cifra" and thence "cifre" in Old French and "cipher" in modern English (and "chiffre" in modern French).[1]  The two are thus in fact the same word, and the differentiation between them is one of habit rather than of any intrinsic difference between the twain. "zero" is more commonly used in mathematics and science, whereas "cipher" is a more connotative word. One may refer to a person as being a "social cipher", but would name them "Mr. Zero", for example.[1]   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Names_for_the_number_0

doublets or etymological twins

In etymology, two or more words in the same language are called doublets or etymological twins (or possibly triplets, etc.) when they have the same etymological root but have entered the language through different routes. Because the relationship between words that have the same root and the same meaning is fairly obvious, the term is mostly used to characterize pairs of words that have diverged in meaning, at times making their shared root a point of irony. For example English pyre and fire are doublets. Subtle differences in the resulting modern words contribute to the richness of the English language, as indicated by the doublets frail and fragile (which share the Latin root, fragilis): one might refer to a fragile tea cup and a frail old woman, but a frail tea cup and fragile old woman are subtly different and possibly confusing descriptions.

Nine is a composite number, its proper divisors being 1 and 3. It is 3 times 3 and hence the third square number. 9 is a Motzkin number. It is the first composite lucky number. Nine is the highest single-digit number in the decimal system. It is the second non-unitary square prime of the form (p2) and the first that is odd. All subsequent squares of this form are odd. It has a unique aliquot sum 4 which is itself a square prime. 9 is; and can be, the only square prime with an aliquot sum of the same form. The aliquot sequence of 9 has 5 members (9,4,3,1,0) this number being the second composite member of the 3-aliquot tree.

There are nine Heegner numbers.[1] Since , 9 is an exponential factorial. 8 and 9 form a Ruth-Aaron pair under the second definition that counts repeated prime factors as often as they occur. A polygon with nine sides is called an enneagon (technically) or nonagon (in common usage).[2] A group of nine of anything is called an ennead. In base 10 a number is evenly divisible by nine if and only if its digital root is 9.[3] That is, if you multiply nine by any whole number (except zero), and repeatedly add the digits of the answer until it is just one digit, you will end up with nine:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_9

This works regardless of the number of digits that are transposed. For example, the largest transposition of 35967930 is 99765330 (all digits in descending order) and its smallest transposition is 03356799 (all digits in ascending order); subtracting pairs of these numbers produces:

  • 99765330-35967930 = 63797400; 6+3+7+9+7+4+0+0 = 36, 3+6 = 9.
  • 99765330-03356799 = 96408531; 9+6+4+0+8+5+3+1 = 36.
  • 35967930-03356799 = 32611131; 3+2+6+1+1+1+3+1 = 18, 1+8 = 9.

CNN) — Baffled consumers are griping about a mysterious glitch that appeared to cause thousands of Zune music players to simultaneously stop working late Tuesday and early Wednesday.

Internet message boards have been flooded with complaints about Zune’s 30GB models freezing, prompting Y2K-like speculation about end-of-year hardware or software problems.

"It seems that every Zune on the planet has just frozen up and will not work," posted a Mountain Home, Idaho, user on CNN’s iReport.com. "I have 3 and they all in the same night stopped working."

Another iReporter said he was working the night shift at a Toys R Us store in Puerto Rico when his Zune player and the Zunes of four co-workers all failed about 1:30 a.m. ET Wednesday. iReport.com: They all froze up

"It froze and there was no way to turn it off so you just have to wait until the batteries went dead. You can’t push any buttons or anything," Carlos Colon told CNN. Colon said he owns a first-generation 30GB model.   http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/12/31/zune.player.failures/index.html

Some Zune users have dubbed the crisis "Y2K9" or "Z2K9," a reference to New Year’s Eve and concerns over potential widespread computer failures on January 1, 2000 — fears that proved unfounded.

what is a jew ; acording to christ ; and to joseph ;
Joseph, son of Jacob, is one of the best-known figures in the Torah, famous for his coat of many colors

Upon Joseph centered the love of his father, Jacob, who showered upon "the son of his old age" many tokens of special favor, and arrayed him in a "coat of many colors". This favoritism, however, excited the envy of his older brothers, and Joseph increased their envy by telling them of two dreams which prognosticated his ruling over them (Gen. xxxvii. 2-11).

When a lad of seventeen, Joseph was sent by his father to inquire after his brothers, who were pasturing the flocks in Shechem. He found them at Dothan, and when his brothers saw him approaching they planned to kill him. Reuben, however, took his part, and, in order to remove him from the fury of the others, advised them to throw Joseph into a pit (Gen. xxxvii. 13-24). He intended to rescue Joseph and return him to Jacob later.

Different accounts are given of the sale of Joseph, which immediately followed; according to one, the brothers, while eating at some distance from the pit, sighted a caravan of Ishmaelites, to whom they decided to sell Joseph. In the meantime some Midianite merchants passing the pit drew Joseph out and sold him for twenty pieces of silver to the Ishmaelites, who took Joseph to Egypt (Gen. xxxvii. 25-28). The last statement is repeated in Gen. xxxix. 1, while in Gen. xxxvii. 36 it is said that the Midianites (Hebr. "Medanites") sold him to Potiphar in Egypt.    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_(Hebrew_Bible)

The CEO of Russia’s state gas monopoly Gazprom has said Russia will cut off all gas supplies to Ukraine on Thursday morning.  Alexei Miller said the decision was made after Wednesday’s talks on how much Ukraine would pay for natural gas shipments in 2009 ended with no agreement.  Miller also said that Gazprom had not yet received the money Ukraine said it had transferred to cover its debt, which Russia estimates at $2.1 billion.  Gazprom promised to do its best to make sure European consumers receive their gas on time as most of the gas Russia supplies to Europe goes through Ukraine.  http://english.aljazeera.net/news/europe/2008/12/20081231193115146270.html

WASHINGTON (CNN) — A number of atheists and non-religious organizations want Barack Obama’s inauguration ceremony to leave out all references to God and religion. In a lawsuit filed Tuesday in Washington, the plaintiffs demand that the words "so help me God" not be added to the end of the president’s oath of office. In addition, the lawsuit objects to plans for ministers to deliver an invocation and a benediction in which they may discuss God and religion. Joining Newdow in the suit are groups advocating religious freedom or atheism, including the American Humanist Association, the Freedom from Religion Foundation and atheist groups from Minnesota; Seattle, Washington; and Florida.

The new lawsuit says in part, "There can be no purpose for placing ‘so help me God’ in an oath or sponsoring prayers to God, other than promoting the particular point of view that God exists."

Newdow said references to God during inauguration ceremonies violate the Constitution’s ban on the establishment of religion.

Manna (sometimes or archaically spelt mana), (Hebrew: מָ‏ן) is the name of a food which, according to the Bible, was eaten by the Israelites during their travels in the desert; until they reached Canaan, the Israelites are implied by some passages in the Bible to have eaten only manna during their desert sojourn,[1] despite the availability of milk and meat from the livestock with which they traveled, and the references to provisions of fine flour, oil, and meat, in later parts of the journey’s narrative.[2] The manna is also briefly mentioned in the Qur’an, with the Sura of the Cow,[3] Sura of the Heights,[4] and Sura of the Flattening,[5] mentioning the divine supply of manna as one of the miracles with which the Israelites were favoured; these passages only describe manna as being good things which have been provided … as sustenance.[6]   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manna

the description in the Book of Exodus, manna is described as appearing each morning after the dew had gone,[7] while in the description in the Book of Numbers, manna arrived with the dew during the night;[8] the Book of Exodus adds that manna was comparable to hoarfrost in size,[9] and similarly had to be collected before it was melted by the heat of the sun.[10] According to the Book of Exodus in the Biblical, manna is described as being white "like coriander seed" in colour,[11] while the Book of Numbers describes it as being the same colour as bdellium.[12] According to the Book of Numbers, the Israelites ground it up and pounded it into cakes, which were then baked, resulting in something that tasted like olive oil;[13] the Book of Exodus states that it tasted like wafers that had been made with honey.[11] The Israelites were instructed to only eat the manna they had gathered for each day, for leftovers or storing any up for the following day resulted in manna that "bred worms and stank".[14] The exception to this occurrence was the day before the Sabbath when twice the amount of manna was gathered, which did not spoil overnight.[15]

Textual scholars view the two descriptions of manna as deriving from different sources, with the description in the Book of Numbers being from the Jahwist text, and the description in the Book of Exodus being from the later Priestly Source.[16][
